Some Projects I'm Working On:
- I'm shooting some portfolio stuff tomorrow on a friend's farm. The pictures will be for Stock Photography and for a proposal I'm submitting on a job for the Ontario Literary Council.
- I've been taking lots of pictures of homes and interior design for Brenda Currah's design portfolio
- I've
got 4 groups of people awaiting spring to shoot their Grad Portraits
(pictures of them at graduation). I offered a chance for 2 groups of
people to have their pictures taken for free and I ended up taking 4
groups. If you'd like to see how much work folks did to get a free

- There are half a dozen Engagement shoots to get on the
calendar when the weather turns. For one couple we hope to shoot in an
old, converted factory so that should be an amazing opportunity to
combine my love of shooting portraits with some great architecture.
- get to see peeks into the background of what is going on with building my business here in Southern Ontario (behind the scenes videos, how-to's, etc)
- a 10% discount on photography work (graduation pictures for High
School or College/University, anniversary shots, family pictures, shots
for your club or group, etc.)
- first chances at getting free
pictures taken when I am doing work for my portfolio (if you come and
let me take your picture, I'll send you a DVD of the high-rez version

The answer (and we sure got a lot closer when I dropped so many clues around) is?
Hoar Frost on my neighbour's dog chain. Our neighbour has a dog line, made out of red clothesline, that he used to use with his old dog Seamus. I wish I had pictures of that dog... he was beautiful.
[In case all of that sounds like Seamus is off to the great fire-hydrant-land in the sky... he's not. His owner did something that I have a lot of respect for... I'm sure it was hard. He gave up the dog because he new that he was working too long and the dog was alone too much.]
Anyway...

It was shot with my home-made super macro... a jeweller's loupe. You can check out this set of pictures for more samples and a quick tutorial on how to make one for yourself.
The closest to Correct answer provided by:
Pako (2 points out of a possible 5 for saying "hoar frost on a rope". I would have accepted hoar frost on a clothesline but "on a rope" is very close)

Subtlevox Stumps the Swarm #1
What Is It?
- I will post a picture or part of a picture.
- I will post 10 in the month of February (+ this bonus picture posted on the 2nd last day in Jan).
- People will be given 3 days (36 hours from posting) to post their best guess in the Comments below the picture.
- Everyone is allowed 3 total guesses per picture.
- All answers will be tallied and the on-going Top 3 Scores will accompany each new picture.
- Each correct guess will add 5 to your score.
- If no one has guessed correctly in 48 hours I will post a 2nd picture in which the object is a little more obvious.
- Winner will receive a $25 Gift Certificate to the restaurant of their choice. The only limit is that I must be able to purchase a gift certificate online.
- Contest open to everyone except Beth, whom I look forward to taking out for a special dinner anyway and whom I am hoping will help me judge the answers.

We got a funny call last night from my sister, Sarah Jane. "Would you like to come with Mom and me to see the Holiday Train. You'll have to hurry and get dressed" **Note to non-Canadian readers: Getting dressed at this time of the year means long-johns, ski-pants, layers of fleece, 2 kinds of gloves and a double layer of hats - a toque and a fleece hood - getting "dressed" for winter.
We went to the bridge on Hwy 59 and saw the train come in, then drove down to the old CPR station down by the Tube to join in with the crowd. One of the box cars opened up and there was a full stage with lights inside. I didn't catch the name of the group of women singing (they said they were from Newfoundland, a little research tells me it was probably Ennis) but Colin Linden was one of the guitar players.
The Holiday Train has been going across Canada and the northern United States, stopping in communities to help bring in food and money for local foodbanks since 1999.
I think that's a brilliant idea.
I have only had time to work on a few of these pictures but I thought I would share what I have got done so far.
Ron, Jen and Thompson came with me to Southside Park in Woodstock on Saturday where we played in the leaves, sat around a cedar grove and dodged goose poop down by the pond. That boy can do "Hurray!" better than anyone else his age, I'm certain.
They were great to shoot and easy to photography as you can see from the pictures. We were down by Pittock Lake in Woodstock for these shots. You can tell from the middle picture how windy it was down by the water.
