Song of the Day: Maybe You Should Drive - Craig Cardiff
It sounded less like Don McLean
And more like Lenny Bruce
I’ve been wrapping my head around your idea
Of truth.
Oh, is it truth brought out in fear?
Or the truth put on display?
Or the truth when people leave,
And people go away?Maybe you should drive.
Shut your eyes closed,
Shut your eyes and read between the lines.
Song of the Day: The First Cut Is The Deepest - the Sheryl Crow version, sadly. I love the Cat Stevens version - he wrote the song.
- The first cut is the deepest, Baby I know —
- The first cut is the deepest
- 'Cause when it comes to being lucky, she's cursed
- When it comes to lovin' me, she's worst
- But when it comes to being loved, she's first
- That's how I know.
Song of the Day: True Faith - New Order
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...
Many a moody day in high school wishing that I could afford more black clothes and listening to New Order's Substance on my yellow Sony Walkman...
I wish, just for posterity, that there were more pictures of the haircuts I had in high school. You'd think in a family so into photography...
Song of the Day: Piece of My Heart - Janis Joplin
I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby, (break a..)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah. (have a..)
Hey! Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, yeah.
You know you got it if it makes you feel good,
Oh yes indeed.
Do you ever get this in your head and just get stuck on "COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON /COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON / COME ON ...
Song of the Day: Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers
There's a man who leads a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow
Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name
Of course, when I was a kid I heard a modegreen of this song: Secret Asian Man.
Song of the Day: Venite Adoremus (Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him)
Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum!
It's not that weird that I would have Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him as my SOD today, but the Latin version?!?
Merry Christmas Everybody!

Song of the Day: All The Young Dudes - Mott The Hoople
Man... this one drove me crazy this morning. I kept thinking "this a great SOD... I've got to remember this when I wake up!"All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
I think I picked up this song from listening to the Lyrics Undercover podcast by Brian Ibbott - the same guy that does one of my favourites - Coverville.
Song of the Day: Deep and Wide
I am constantly amazed how often Sunday School songs from 30 years ago make it into the Song of the Day. This song has a simple verse that you take away one word every time you sing through - you hum instead of saying the word. Looks like this:

Deep and wide
There's a fountain flowing deep and wide
Deep and wide
Deep and wide
There's a fountain flowing deep and wide
Hmmm and wide
Hmmm and wide
There's a fountain flowing hmmm and wide
Hmmm and wide
Hmmm and wide
There's a fountain flowing hmmm and wide
Song of the Day: Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
I'm certainly not the only one who gets this stuck in their heads. The particular version I have playing today is by Calexico from the Mix CD I sent out yesterday.
Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
Our respect run so dry?
Yet theres still this appeal
That weve kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again

Song of the Day: It's a Small World (Disney) Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
I
t's a world of laughter
A world of tears
It's a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all
