I'm taking my first stab at newspaper advertising next week. This is a test just to feel out the waters.
We have a local "PennySaver" type classified paper that is delivered to every home in the county. It's called the Oxford Shopping News. They are having a Bridal issue.I decided to take a risk and let the picture speak for it's self.
What do you think?
It's been a busy couple of weeks around the Subtlevox offices. I am excited to show you the pictures from Allison and Ian's wedding on Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving) Weekend.

Cool Shoes!
That is the title of an article that was written about me in this week's Muskokan newspaper. To see the article in full click through. The only drag about the online version of the story is that it doesn't have all of the pictures that were in the actual paper - lots of great tattoo pictures and a copy of the zipline photo that won the Our Kids magazine photo contest.
A bit of it:
The camp also opened another door for Allison. His love of photography. There has been a long tradition of capturing the generations as they make their way though the camp’s ranks. This ignited a passion Allison had when he was younger.
He works under the name Subtlevox Photography and as well as capturing years of summers, he shoots weddings, band shots, album covers, and advertising and promotion work.
“My mom took courses at night school,” he explained. “Most people start out with a point-and-shoot; I learned on a full manual Pentax.”
“The camp would take about 2,000 slides a year and having a slide show was a great camp tradition."
As some of you may know I have given our Synod organization notice that this will be my last summer as one of their Executive Directors. Beth & I are excited to be moving to Woodstock in September where we can be closer to Spencer and Andrew and all of our family (and many of our friends!)
This means that I am presently looking for a job to start in October. I am interested in all opportunities that come to mind. Nothing is too outrageous or out of left field. I have my resume available in case you know of someone who is looking for a person like myself. Having worked 14 years as a Director and now Executive Director of a non-profit agency, as a firefighter and now as a photography business owner I have developed skills and interests in many areas.
I am looking for work involving some of these diverse things:
- photography: Advertising and Promotional Work, CD / Book Covers, Photoshoots, Band Photography, Live Photography (company events, charity golf tournaments, staff parties, etc.), Weddings and Engagements
- building construction and renovation to decrease environmental impact and reduce operating costs
- using web-based marketing tools to increase business profile and advertise inexpensively (including Search Engine Optimization)
- online community development and management
- managing mergers and acquisitions (or: "successfully bringing together two corporate cultures to make them better")
- human resources management
- truck driving (I have my DZ license)
- project management (I have supervised construction and development of an entire camp and it's programmes)
- site management or supervising site managers
- safety inspection, including Hazardous Tree evaluation (now required for schools, parks, outdoor education centres and camps)
- marketing, advertising management
I'm very excited about the possibilities.

If you've ever been to our house you will remember the legendary downstairs bathroom.
If you follow my Twitter feed then you will know that we've been renovating it for the last month (By the way, if you're a blog reader then you may also follow stuff like my Flickr account, etc. If that's the case you might be interested in one-stop reading).
Here's how it all ends up:
First (from touring the house before we bought it)
Then the demo:
[...must find demo picture]
And now... (Beth gets the creative credit, I'm the guy with the toolbelt.)
Have you ever Googled your own name? How did you feel about the results?

Sure have. And I subscribe to my name as a google search.
Of course, I don't show up to page 3. The rest is about The Travis Allison Band. They own my URL... and they've never responded to my request for stickers.
